Prosper As A Dad…

As a family dad, embrace change by doing one thing – learn.

When you learn you grow as an individual.  It’s a must.

When you stop learning, bad things happen.  You don’t want that.  You want to prosper.

So…be selective about what you spend your time learning.

Get smart about what you learn

Not all learning is the same.  Learning the new TV show fall schedule is not the kind of learning that will propel you over the top.

You want to continually learn in areas that will bring a tangible benefit.  Some examples are:

  • Learn more about your career or business – the more depth you have about what you do will make you a leading expert in your field.
  • Read about and stay up-to-date about the industry you’re in.  Is it growing? Are there innovations at play that can dramatically change the outlook?  What is the long term risk?  What’s the government doing?  How about your competition?  Find ways that will, on a consistent basis, provide you with the insights you need.
  • Learn more about a hobby – if you like doing something that’s cool and valuable, visualize making a business out of it, and learn it inside out.
  • Learn another skill set – one at a time.  This one’s big.  The more skill sets you have, the more desirable you become.  If your industry is hurting, and you’re looking to get out and reinvent yourself, you’ll need to learn.  Just make sure the skill sets are for things you would want to do.
  • Learn about people – your customers, your boss, your contacts – get in tune to what’s the word on the street.

I can go on and on, but you get the point.   The important thing is to continually learn and not stay still or stagnate.

Measure Up

You want to measure and do well with something I call your Flexibility Value (FV).  Your FV is a measurement of how strong, prepared, and easily you can adapt in a changing environment.

There is a formula for this.

Ready?

FV = L / C

Where L  is for  Learning and C is Change.

Since we know that change is always constant, that means that your Flexibility Value will depend 100% on Learning.

Very simply, the more you learn, the higher your flexibility value.  The less you learn, the lower.

The higher FV you have, the better chance you have at prospering during a changing environment.

So, strive to raise your FV – embrace change this way and change will be on your side.

Now, isn’t that better than the alternative?

Autumn is here…

Kids are going back to school.

The outlook for your job/career/business is sort of blurry.

If you live in an area where seasons change, you’ll soon notice the changing outdoor colors.

If you live in an area with only one season, you’ll still feel something changing – even if you can’t see it.

Change is all around us.  It wins presidential elections.  It surprises you if you aren’t prepared. It’s the only thing that’s constant.

Change will happen whether we’d like it to or not.

It doesn’t need a permission slip.

So, how do you handle change? What can you do for you and family to prosper in changing times?

Do you worry?

Of course not.

You know that worrying is just another way fear shows up.  You know that not only do you produce nothing when you worry, it actually can be very dangerous.

How?

When you worry, you are meditating – but meditating on negative things – exactly the opposite of what you want to happen.

As you know, what you think about (or meditate on) will eventually become reality.  This is not a secret anymore.

But it works both ways.  It is a two-edged sword.

Instead, how you handle change is to embrace it.

First, be open to it.  Learn (more on that next time).

See change as exciting opportunities that are just waiting to be found.

Next, sit back, relax…and begin to visualize.  God has given you a mind and universal laws that are more powerful than we can imagine.

Meditate, pray for, visualize on specific things regarding surround-sound prosperity:

  • The kids are doing excellent in school academically, socially, and in every relevant way
  • You now have a wonderful job/career – the one that you are a natural for
  • Your business is more profitable every month and is growing exponentially
  • You have so many prosperous ideas every day, you’ll need catch your breadth

Please make sure you get this very important note though:

This doesn’t mean you sit around daydreaming.

Far from it.  What you are doing is setting the expectations for you and your family to prosper in the specifics of life.

These expectations serve as guides/directions for the actions needed to be done by you, your kids, your company, etc.

Without these, your actions are just random – they have no meaning, no reasoning, no basis for existing.

Does that make sense?

A discussion about handling change cannot be done in one post.  For this reason, this is the first of a series regarding this topic.  In the meantime, remember: don’t worry about change, be happy with it.

I’m not going to talk about how the obesity rate is where it is and increasing in epidemic proportions.

Not even going to mention the fact that less and less people are exercising or about the multibillion $ per year in health care costs that it produces.

Nope.  Not going there.

Why?

Because this is all about bringing you & maintaining prosperity – not only for you the family dad, but for those you love and follow your example – from your family to your friends and those you touch.

The question is:  how can you prosper with your health and in turn prosper the health and wellbeing of those close to you?

Remember this…

There is nothing worse than doing nothing.

As you know (and this pretty much is a universal starting point for succeeding at anything), prosperity with your health begins with doing something – anything.

As a matter of fact, doing anything that is an action verb and ends with “ing” works.

Use your imagination, but mine include walking, lifting weights, running, dancing to all kinds of music, boxing, and so on.

Yes, walking with the family, going white water rafting, playing tennis (even if it means with your Wii system), or going snowboarding are all beneficial.

So, after reading this, just get up and get going.

What you want to do is perform actions that can become good habits. These habits will help you and others stay away from the sofa.

They will yield the results you really want & need –to continually prosper and, yes, increase good health at epidemic proportions.
