Prosper As A Dad…

How do you prosper when you are on vacation?

The fact that you are on vacation is a good sign.  It means you are on the right track.

A vacation is a time to unwind, to step away from the regular, to widen your perspective.

Most importantly – a vacation is a time and place where you create joyful, memorable experiences for others (like your friends and family).  Isn’t that a large part of prospering?

Think about it -the more you give, the more you recieve.  It’s not about you, it’s about what you can do for others.  As a family dad, the joy and happiness that you feel seeing your kids enjoying life is indescribable.  There is nothing that comes close.

So, with that in mind – going on vacation to:

  • the beach
  • skiing in the mountains
  • across the country or across the ocean
  • amusement parks such as Disney, SeaWorld, Universal Studios, Six Flags and others
  • the zoo or aquarium
  • a cruise or adventure tour
  • trip to see relatives?
  • just staying at home to relax

…are all good and reasonable.

Just getting away will also bring you moments of inspiration, opportunities for reconnecting with the love of your life (yes, your wife!), and numerous insights that you may have forgotten or not have noticed at all.

Sounds prosperous?

No question.

Do any of these sound familiar to you?

“I’m not good at math”

“I’m just not good at making relationships at work”

“I don’t see myself becoming a VP of the company”

“I’m just not a good presenter”

or, the ever popular…

“I’m not as pretty/popular/(plug in any verbiage here) as the other kids”

These statements have a few things in common:

1.) they all begin with “I”

2.) they are all negative

3.) they are all Self Limiting Beliefs (SLB’s)

Self Limiting Beliefs are destructive, anti-prospering phrases that are very commonplace anywhere you go.  You hear it at work, in schools, and sadly, in family homes.  SLB’s bring no value, no increase, and nothing good.

As a family dad, it is your duty to root out any SLB’s from your surroundings – especially at home.  If you catch yourself saying these things, remember that what you think and say will eventually become a reality.

Also, remember that your kids and those around you are paying attention.  It may not seem like it sometimes!  But the truth is that in time you will hear it back.

Instead, replace the destructive SLB’s with clear, specific, positive statements such as:

“I am an excellent problem solver”

“I enjoy meeting and helping people”

“I am prosperous in everything I do”

“I am a strong, healthy, faithful, generous, prosperous, successful, and happy Family Dad and Man of God.”

See the difference?  Continue thinking of other declarations…can you think of a way to make it a game for the kids?

As the CEO of your family, you have the responsibility of not only guiding your family in the right direction, you need to set the right vision of where you’re headed.

As you know, you don’t just get into a cab and say drive – you give a destination.  Same concept applies for your family.

What are the financial goals for your family for this year, 5 years from now?

What do you expect your family to accomplish within those years?

What are the educational expectations you have set for your kids?

What kinds of relationships should you and your family invest in?

Are you appropriately communicating these goals and how are you monitoring them?

These are just some of a few questions you need to ask.  We will dive into each of these questions and more in the future.

In the meantime, a very important action you can do now is to actually visualize what hasn’t happened yet.  Each day would probably be impossible, but at least once a week, take time out to actually think and visualize.

Visualize what you and your family will be doing, say 5 years from now.

Where would you live?  What would you have?  How would the kids be doing in school?  How will your job or business be like?  Make a point to stay positive – to see it the way you want to see it.

The secret is that what you visualize intensely eventually becomes reality.

So watch out because it works whether you visualize positive or negative circumstances.

As a family dad, visualizing you and your family prosper is as important as any other task you have.
